The History of the Small Business Development Centre:
The Small Business Research Group started its operation in 1989 at our university (former Budapest University of Economic Sciences and Public Administration). In 1990, this organizational unit announced the establishment of the academic minor in entrepreneurship, which turned out to be very popular among the students, as fresh graduates were almost always guaranteed to have good job prospects and to receive competitive salaries.
The Small Business Research Group (SBRG) also developed teaching materials (business planning; marketing for small businesses; financial and budgeting issue of business enterprises etc.,), and, furthermore, research activities undertaken by the SBRG had made these topics fresh and provided up-to-the minute information.
In august 2000, as part of the higher educational reforms, the SBRG as such, ceased to exist, and the Small Business Development Centre (SBDC) was established. The Centre seeks to realize the original objectives at a higher level, and within this framework, an academic major in Small Business Enterprise was introduced during the 2002/2003 academic year.
Our Mission:
Small Business Development Centre (SBDC) at the Corvinus University of Budapest strongly intends to become an organization, which, relying on the intellectual capacity of the University and on its national and international reputation, aims at attaining the followings:
- planning and coordinating research activities related to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), and as an independent research entity, it intends to become actively involved in these endeavours;

- by building up national and international networking systems it is to promote the interaction and cooperation of science and of real life business experience and between the higher educational sector and the business world, as well as to assist in disseminating the results of the research papers, nationally and internationally.
As a result of its activities, the SBDC will become, directly and indirectly, an advisory body for the economic and political decision-makers of the economy and politics, for the institutional entities dealing with SMEs, for organizations representing business interests, and for the enterprise sector itself. The Centre will also contribute to help in transferring knowledge and information both in the public and the higher educational system, as well as for the active entrepreneurs.
The SBDC, as member and organizer of national and international entrepreneur trainings and research activities, actively participates in developing and enhancing the self-knowledge and business culture of the SMEs.
