Getting solutions while losing understanding – these are the biggest dangers of AI in education

For two semesters, Corvinus teachers experimented with ChatGPT-like artificial intelligence in their mathematics courses: all the time, their students were free to use AI for their assignments and even for their exams. The results surprised both instructors: students’ motivation and the overall knowledge level of the group decreased, and social inequalities between students became more pronounced.

Artificial intelligence makes their work more efficient and easier, but they do not consider their profession to be completely replaceable by it in the coming years – this is the general opinion of the interviewed Hungarian copywriters and journalists, according to a recent study by Corvinus University. Respondents have a strong self-confidence and consider themselves more adaptable compared to others in their field.

Introduction of Research Management

The aim of the research management office is to support the quality publications of the Corvinus scholars with various means, contributing to the improvement of the University’s research performance and its position in international university rankings.

The Research Management office provides assistance at all levels of the research-publication process: from planning to the implementation of the research, to the writing and publication of the articles.

The primary tool of research support is the Workflow system, that is an online application interface to require financial assistance regarding the publication and dissemination of manuscripts. Our workshops serve the purpose of expanding the professional knowledge of colleagues, by inviting renowned international guest speakers and organizing methodological trainings.

The recognition of achievements and the further financial stimulation of researchers, also takes a central role in our agenda. The annually announced Corvinus Research Excellence Award (CKK) was created, to reward internationally visible, outstanding publications. Research visibility is aided by the quarterly summaries of our publication Quarterly Corvinus Research Highlights, which are at the forefront of the academic plenum’s interest.”

A significant part of László Csató's research career is focused on sport. Having written a large number of papers on sport-related topics, in 2021 he won the Corvinus Research Excellence Grand Prize. Over the past years, the number of publications issued by Corvinus researchers has grown significantly, but there is still a lot to do in the field of improving international research connections, said the Vice-Rector for Research. Over the past years, research and publication activities at the University have improved a lot. The best proof of that is the fact that the number of Corvinus authors’ articles of Q1 and Q2 ratings in international journals has grown fivefold within five years. In 2022, altogether 292 such articles were written, and one third of them were co-authored by foreign researchers.
