Further info about research: A kutatás célja egy kifejezetten magyar anyanyelvű vizsgálati személyek számára optimalizált, átfogó, moduláris felépítésű munkamemóriateszt-csomag kifejlesztése és standardizálása. Az egységes Magyar Munkamemória-teszt (MAMUT) egy integrált szoftvercsomag formájában szabadon hozzáférhető lesz, és a munkamemória-modell valamennyi komponensének mérésére tartalmaz eljárásokat. A Magyar Munkamemória-teszt a következő modulok független mérését teszi lehetővé: 1. verbális munkamemória kapacitása , 2. téri-vizuális munkamemória kapacitása, 3. multimodális reprezentációk létrehozásának (binding) képessége az epizodikus pufferben, 4. a központi végrehajtó különböző funkciói, mint (a) verbális tárolás és feldolgozás koordinációja, (b) téri-vizuális tárolás és feldolgozás koordinációja, (c) stratégiai előhívás a hosszú távú emlékezetből, (d) szelektív figyelem, és (e) feladatváltás. A tesztcsomag fejlesztése három, egyenként egy-egy éves szakaszban valósul meg; ez lehetővé teszi az egyes modulok több lépcsőben történő, időközbeni publikálását (2012, 2013, és 2014 nyarán).

Further info about research: The research project comprises a series of three experimental studies on the relationship between human memory systems and the processing of spoken second language input. In order to determine which features of L2 input are associated with processing difficulties, performance measures were taken of both the immediate repetition (Experiments 1 and 2) and the long-term learning (Experiment 3) of novel phonological sequences (nonwords). The results indicate that the short-term retention of L2 input is strongly impaired by the presence of unfamiliar phonetic segments, while phonological and phonotactic deviances from the L1 also appear to have a detrimental effect provided the input to be retained is longer than approximately five syllables. It is proposed that the highly significant load-independent effect of phonetic disparities between the L1 and the verbal stimulus arises from the disturbances in the phonological analysis of the input prior to its storage in phonological short-term memory (PSTM). By contrast, the difficulties related to the retention of unusual phoneme combinations appear to stem from the unavailability of appropriate L2 sublexical patterns at retrieval from PSTM, when reconstructive processes rely on long-term knowledge in order to restore partially decayed traces. Interestingly, the effects obtained in immediate repetition tasks did not fully transfer to the paired-associate learning of word-nonword pairs. While the impairment associated with deviant phoneme combinations remained detectable in long-term representations, word learning performance was unaffected by the presence of non-L1 phonetic segments. A two-route model of word form learning is proposed in which the acquisition of the phonological structure of new words results from the integration of phonological codes with auditory (acoustic) representations in long-term memory. The relative contribution of these two types of information to word learning is assumed to depend on the distribution of attentional resources between the two corresponding short-term memory systems. The saliency of unfamiliar speech sounds may trigger involuntary attention shifts toward auditory short-term memory, and thus the instability of phonological traces may be compensated for by enhanced auditory representations.
