Fairer society with the help of AI?

Lilla Vicsek (Associate Professor, Institute of Communication and Sociology) was asked to partake in the ‘Future of Work’ campaign by the renowned publisher Emerald. In the few minutes long video that she made for the campaign, she talks about how artificial intelligence could contribute to a fairer future with respect to work.

In the video, it is also discussed what the problems are with concentrating on questions such as “Will robots take away my job?”, instead of focusing on how to reach a fairer future. The contribution is linked to the OTKA research project ‘Visions on Artificial Intelligence and Society’. The complete Emerald ‘Future of Work’ campaign can be accessed at the following link.

More aspects connected to visions about the future of work are raised in a paper by Lilla Vicsek, which has appeared in International Journal of Sociology and Social Policy in 2021. (Vicsek, L. (2021).   “Artificial intelligence and the future of work – lessons from the sociology of expectations”, International Journal of Sociology and Social Policy, Vol. 41 No. 7/8, pp. 842-861. https://doi.org/10.1108/IJSSP-05-2020-0174))
