The 2021 admission has started for undergraduate and master’s programmes, and graduate undergraduate students are facing a serious decision: stay in higher education for another two years, or test themselves in the labour market. In our five-part article series, we wish to present the master’s programmes starting at Corvinus in groups, making it easier for students to make a decision.
Finance
The programme is recommended by Corvinus for those who wish to work in the financial sector with extensive theoretical and methodological knowledge. The aim of the programme is to train professionals who have an insight into financial processes in the corporate, banking and public finance fields, on the basis of which they will be able to prepare and make decisions. The training is supported by the Finance Laboratory (Finlab) equipped with Bloomberg and Reuters terminals. During the programme, Corvinus cooperates with such large companies as BSE, Citibank, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley, MSCI, OTP, among others, and students can also join the CEMS double degree programme. Graduates can work as investment analysts, bank risk managers, portfolio managers, crisis managers, corporate valuers in government agencies, investment banks and financial institutions, both nationally and internationally.
Economic analysis
Due to large databases, an increasing number of companies and institutions employ economic analysts to facilitate fact-based decision-making through their work. The aim of the Economic Analyst master’s programme is to train analysts who understand and can make analyses, with the help of data, economic regularities. Experts with economic analytical competencies are not currently trained in any other Hungarian higher education institution.
There are two specialisations in the programme. The Macroeconomic Analyst specialisation provides actual macroeconomic and financial knowledge, which is transferred to the implementation phase with economic policy knowledge. The aim of the Market Analyst specialisation is to enable students to understand the internal operation of companies and the market relations between companies, and then to be able to analyse these processes both theoretically and empirically. The knowledge gained here is highly valued by large companies such as MOL and OTP, consulting companies such as McKinsey and Big4, market research companies such as Nielsen, and a number of government institutions (MNB, HCA) and international organisations (European Commission, OECD).
Business Informatics
The aim of the programme is to prepare students to resolve business problems with IT tools. In addition to technical interest, managerial skills and the ability to perform organisational and management tasks are also important. The training will focus on leading companies in the international IT market, which will provide direct access to state-of-the-art technologies and methods and practical experience, according to Corvinus.
Graduates can work in international and national large companies, small and medium-sized enterprises as business informatics, as systems analysts, IT consultants, IT auditors and business intelligence experts.
Economics of Family Policy and Public Policies for Human Development
In this programme, economists are trained who are sensitive to the social issues of our time, such as an aging society, and would examine their effects.
During the two-year training, they are able to learn about what family policy discusses, how its changes affect the decision-making of individual families, households and consumer habits. With the acquired knowledge, you will be prepared to form family policy, analyse and forecast processes. With a master’s degree, you can find employment in the public and civil sectors, both nationally and internationally, such as at the United Nations or the European Union.
Health policy, Planning and Financing
The programme is recommended for those whose main area of interest is healthcare or come from a healthcare related profession, and who have a good sense of planning and analysis and are receptive to economics. By completing the programme, you will become health policy professionals who are able to make independent policy, planning and funding decisions in the field of health. With the acquired knowledge, you can find employment in healthcare at both regional (national to micro-regional) and institutional levels, especially in jobs that specialise in enhancing the performance of the system.
Public Policy and Management
A truly economics-oriented degree programme for those planning their future in the public sector. The aim of the programme is to train economists with a multidisciplinary and eclectic approach. You will also be proficient in the practical and theoretical use of social science, management, legal, methodological and specialised knowledge related to the target area. By completing the programme, you can find employment in public and non-public institutions, ministries, non-profit, civil and international organisations. In your work, you can be engaged in, among other things, management and the practical application of human policies.
International Taxation
Students of the training programme available at Corvinus University only in Hungary can learn the practices of providing tax representation and managing investments and business transactions from a tax aspect. Graduates of this master’s programme can generally work for international companies and consulting firms as a tax officer.
The four-semester training is adapted to the competencies expected by the market participants, and the schedule of studies is adjusted to the rhythm of life of those working in the profession. The International Taxation master’s programme will start in 2021 exclusively in English, in correspondence schedule.
International Economy and Business
The four-semester International Economy and Business master’s programme aims to acquaint students with the basic micro- and macroeconomic, international business and financial contexts, as well as global and regional institutional systems. The training prepares you for international business analysis, decision preparation and decision-making work, and the graduates work mainly as experts and decision-makers in large corporations, diplomatic and international organisations.
The uniqueness of the training, among other things, provided by field studies in three different locations, professional trips, simulation tasks, and roaming seminars. Applicants can join a number of double degree programmes or enrol in internationally recognised CEMS business training.

Regional and Environmental Economic Studies
The Regional and Environmental Economic Studies master’s programme conveys economic knowledge bearing in mind the ecological systems, geographical, environmental phenomena and the global challenges of our time (our previous article on urban planning is available here). During the four-semester training, students will address the economic impacts of climate change, explore alternative development options, and gain insight into the challenges of urban, regional, and rural development.
The training is available in full-time schedule in Budapest, in Hungarian and English, and in Székesfehérvár in correspondence form, only in Hungarian. Its uniqueness is based on the AESOP (Association of European Schools of Planning) certification, the mentoring programme and field studies abroad, as well as the potentially available CEMS training.
Graduates of the programme typically work in the fields of climate and development policy consulting, corporate social responsibility (CSR), application writing and support project management, urban development, regional and rural development.
