ERA Chairs support universities or research organisations from eligible countries to attract and maintain high quality human resources and help excellent scientists and their teams to become game changers in their field.

ERA Chair holders: should be excellent researchers and research managers in the given field of research, with a proven record of effective leadership. They should establish their own research team fully integrated in the coordinator’s institution to significantly improve its research performance in the scientific domain of choice and to be more successful in obtaining competitive funding.

• It is expected that the Chair holder commits him/herself for the full duration of the grant. The ERA Chair holder should have a full-time position within the organisation/university, professor or similar, that will allow him/her to make appropriate resource allocation decisions, supervise team members and freely apply for research funding.
• The grant that can have a duration of five years maximum will cover the appointment of the ERA Chair holder and a number of team members (e.g. their salaries, recruitment costs, administrative costs, travel and subsistence costs).
• The grant will also provide a contribution towards measures aimed at facilitating structural changes in the institution (e.g. costs for trainings, meetings, publications and managing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

Budget: The Commission considers that proposals requesting a contribution of EUR 2.5 million.

Hop on Facility This call will provide the possibility for legal entities from low R&I performing countries (=widening countries) to join already selected collaborative projects, subject to the agreement of the respective consortium and provided that legal entities from such countries are not participating in it yet.

A consortium under Pillar 2 Actions (Research and Innovation) of Horizon Europe with a valid grant agreement but without a partner from a widening country ( e.g. Hungary) in the consortium yet can apply to include a legal entity from a widening country in their consortium.
The application to include a partner from a widening country needs to be submitted by the coordinator of the consortium. All consortium partners need to agree with the inclusion of this new partner from a widening country. The application needs to describe in detail the profile of the new partner and the role of this partner in the project and the R&I relevance and complementarity of this new partner also needs to be demonstrated in the application. All the information will have to be added in a track changes document based on the Description of the Action (DOA). The selected applications will be invited to submit an amendment for accession of the new partner, the modification of the description of the action and upgrade of the budget.

The existing consortia will apply with the added partner, and the coordinator will submit the proposal. The type of action is Research and Innovation, which can be subjected to 100% funding.

Deadline: There are two deadlines for submission in 2022 – 20 April and 10 November
Please note that there will be a competition. And if proposals receive equal scores in the ranking procedure, a preference will be given to those proposals with particular relevance to green or digital transitions of the economy.
Budget: The European Commission foresees a budget between 200K EUR and 500K EUR per project. This additional top-up will be added to the initial budget of the existing consortium. However this budget increase should be exclusively spent at the benefit of the new partner with the exception of a coordination fee of up to 10% of the increased budget to be allocated to the coordinator of the consortium.

Interreg Europe is a cooperation programme, co-funded by the European Union. The European Union strives to reduce disparities in the levels of development, growth and quality of life in and across Europe’s regions. Our programme contributes to this objective and runs from 2021 to 2027.
We have a budget of MEUR 379 to help local, regional and national governments across Europe to develop and deliver better policy. We create an environment and opportunities for sharing solutions to regional development issues. We support the exchange of good practices and policy learning among European regions in 29 countries – the EU27, Norway and Switzerland.
Interreg program will contribute to implement EU’s cohesion policy main priorities:

• A more competitive and smarter Europe (PO1);
• A greener, low-carbon transitioning towards a net zero carbon economy and resilient Europe (PO2);
• A more connected Europe (PO3);
• A more social and inclusive Europe (PO4);
• A Europe closer to citizens (PO5)

In 2021-2027 Interreg has 2 new specific objectives:

Interreg Specific Objective (ISO) 1: A better Cooperation governance

o To enhance the institutional capacity of public administrations,
o To resolve legal and administrative obstacles in border regions,
o To promote sustainable democracy,
o To strengthen mutual trust among citizens.

Interreg Specific Objective (ISO) 2: A safer and more secure Europe

o For actions in the fields of border crossing management, mobility and migration management, including the protection and economic and social integration of third-country nationals.
o To support employment and labour market measures such as improving access to employment, encouraging life-long learning, promoting gender balance and fostering equal opportunities.
