MTA-BCE Social Epidemiology Research Group

OUR RESEARCH FOCUS

The Research Group was established on 1 July 2019 with the support of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The research objective of the Research Group is to study the deficits that contribute to the discovery and understanding of the social pattern, characteristics, causes, and connections of health-damaging behaviours. It is our contention that a more profound comprehension of these phenomena may prove instrumental in enhancing the persistently suboptimal health state in Hungary. We regularly disseminate the results of our research to both the domestic and international scientific communities through the publication of articles in peer-reviewed journals and the organisation of conferences and professional discourses. The team aims to provide information to those interested in the profession and the topic, furthermore, to provide students with an insight into the theoretical and practical background of the research in the context of a university workshops.

Alcohol consumption in Hungary – research project

One of the most significant professional endeavours of the Research Group in 2022 was the completion of the paper entitled Alcohol consumption in Hungary – facts, data and analyses. The book was published in 2023 by L’Harmattan publishing house. We conducted a small-scale research study with the objective of exploring risk behaviours in disadvantaged areas in marginalized residential areas of Hungary. Online data collection was created on the risk behaviours of university students. We commenced the data analysis in 2022 and presented our findings on both national and international conferences. We concluded that it is important to mitigate risk behaviours and develop prevention programs to preserve health state.
