Speaking of Research Brunch, ‘research is the bread and butter of the University’

Due to the pandemic situation the last Research Brunch of the year was forced to be held online on 9th December, 2021. Luckily, it did not dampen the researchers’ and the PhD students’ spirit, 60 of whom attended the event. To the great delight of the international participants, the entire event was held in English.

In his opening speech, Előd Takáts thanked Gyula Vastag for his work as a Vice-Rector for Research. The Rector underlined that thanks to Professor Vastag’s dedicated work we can see considerable progress in research activities. Gyula Vastag showed Corvinus University the way how it can improve its research output.

Előd Takáts at the same time highlighted that the University faces a unique challenge as in Hungary we didn’t have such a deep tradition in business and economics studies. He also pointed out that Tamara Keszey has experienced and overcome all the challenges of the system that researchers face at Corvinus. The Rector encouraged the newly appointed Vice-Rector for Research to use the potential of the existing Faculty, to further improve research, and to integrate the new cohort of international faculty members into Corvinus culture.

As the Rector stated in his closing thoughts, there is no good teaching without good research, which is, for this reason, the bread and butter of the University.

As Gyula Vastag pointed out in his summary of the last two years, good universities are not born, they are made by focusing on the advancement of the faculty members. To achieve this goal, two things are vital. On the one hand, good research infrastructure needs to be created. On the other hand, Faculty members need to be given networking possibilities. Significant progress has been made in both areas which is also reflected in the increasing number of quality publications.

Tamara Keszey also thanked her predecessor for his dedicated work in supporting and further developing research at Corvinus. She assured researchers that they will get the highest level of support to be able to conduct state-of-the-line research in the future as well.

Tamara Keszey summed up her goals as Vice-Rector for Research in four main points which are the following: more engaging research culture, even more good researchers, more publications in Q1&Q2 journals and more research projects. She is confident that these goals can be achieved by sharing knowledge within the University, by further developing the researchers’ skills and by bringing in even more external research funds.

The Research Brunch continued with the presentations of those organizational units which can also provide some kind of support for researchers. These units are the Communication, the University Library, the Horizon Europe Centre and the Corporate and Institutional Relations. At the end of the event participants also had the possibility to consult Tamara Keszey and the other presenters online.
