World Finance and Banking Symposium Conference

The Corvinus University of Budapest had the honor to host the World Finance & Banking Symposium conference on 17-18th December 2021. Besides hosting the event, the colleagues and students of the Corvinus also helped organizing the event. The chair of the conference was Joao Vieito from Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, Portugal, while the co-chair was Kata Váradi from Corvinus, Department of Finance.

In the field of finance, the World Finance & Banking Symposium Conference is an internationally well-known, recognized, and high-quality conference, which is always held in December, while its partner conference is the World Finance Conference, organized during the summertime.

Several hundred papers were submitted to the conference, which went through a blind review process, in which approximately 250 reviewers – built up from academics (e.g. HEC Paris, National University of Singapore) and practitioners (e.g. from Bank of Canada, Bank of America) – have decided to accept more than 200 papers for the conference. From the Corvinus University of Budapest, 20 participants attended the conference as authors or presenters, and also another app. 10 participants attended as organizers.

A scientific committee of academics from leading universities around the world, such as the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) or the London School of Economics, has been set up to ensure the professional quality of the conference. The keynote speaker was Bo Becker, Cevian Capital Professor of Finance from Stockholm School of Economics, Sweden.

Hosting the event was very challenging. Due to the pandemic situation, it was uncertain until the last days whether the conference could be organized in a hybrid version, or only online. Finally, several participants – nearly one hundred – were able to attend personally, so all the sessions were run in a hybrid format. The participants could attend personally on the sessions or join any of them online.

Meeting so many international academics and practitioners face-to-face helped the colleagues of Corvinus to build new relationships and helped them move forward with their research and publications.
