The Institute of Marketing and Communication Sciences invites applications for the position of Associate Professor in Communication and Media Science for an indefinite period.
The role is designed to enhance the institute’s educational and research capabilities within Communication and Media Science. We thus invite applicants with a PhD in Communication Science or related disciplines (Linguistics, Languages, Cultural Studies, etc.) with experience in teaching university-level English language courses in Communication and/or Media Science; and with a strong track record in conducting high-quality research within the field of Communication and Media Science. Applicants with a background in Visual Communication, and/or Digitalization and Media Communication, and/or Communication, Language and Cognition, and/or Communication Research Methodology are especially encouraged to apply.
The start date is the Autumn semester of 2024.
Key duties
Teaching and mentoring activities
- Design and deliver high-quality courses in Communication and Media Science within the Institute of Marketing and Communication Sciences during weekly class hours;
- Contribute to student assessment and the continuous enhancement of teaching programmes;
- Contribute to the mentoring and advising of students in their research projects and theses.
Research activities
- Design and conductcutting-edge research that broadly aligns with any of the following areas: visuality and visual communication; digital media and social communication; communication and cognition;
- Develop and participate in research projects/collaborations at both the national and international level;
- Publish high-impact articles in internationally recognized scientific journals.
Service
- Actively participate in the professional life of the Institute of Marketing and Communication Sciences and the university, and perform service-related tasks as determined by the Head of the Institute and the Chair of the Department of Communication and Media Science;
- Support and mentor early-career academics at the university;
- Supervise PhD students.
Essential qualifications and experience
- PhD degree obtained no later than in 2021;
- Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in higher education;
- Experience in teaching courses in English;
- Strong track record in research which includes the following: minimum 3 journal articles written in English in the research area of the applicant, conforming to the following criteria:
- at least one article is Q1 or at least two articles are Q2 (in the year of publishing);
- maximum number of authors is 3 and the applicant is the first or corresponding author.
- Minimum 10 of independent Scopus citations;
- Minimum 5 h-index (e.g., Google Scholar or any international equivalent);
- Officially included in the supervision or co-supervision of at least 1 doctoral student or as senior researcher working with a junior researcher, or acting as principal investigator of a project which involves junior colleagues or PhD students with the objective to introduce/improve them to/in research;
- Positive student evaluation in the past three years (proven by the evaluation system used at the applicant’s university or other authentic, relevant documents or databases).
Desirable criteria
- PhD earned at a top international university and substantial teaching/research experience in an international environment;
- Verifiable teaching development activity;
- Research activity with international impact and substantial international citation record;
- Excellent international embeddedness, participation in international conferences;
- Active role in the activities of doctoral programs and/or mentoring of doctoral students;
- Talent management;
- Participation in the work of academic bodies and professional organisations;
- Membership in editorial boards of domestic and international journals.
Documents to be submitted as part of the application
- Curriculum Vitae including a detailed description of teaching, research and service activities and results;
- Summary table of achievements (please fill in the Excel Summary Table at the bottom of the page)
- Cover letter, including the presentation of future academic plans (research and teaching);
- Minimum two reference letters from leading professors or researchers of the discipline (signed, scanned);
- One journal article that conforms to the publication criteria listed above;
- Scanned copies of the documents verifying the university degree, scientific rank (e.g., PhD degree) and of the documents verifying other professional qualifications. (In case of scientific ranks obtained abroad, the nostrification will be arranged in the next phase of the selection procedure.)
