Further info about research: In theories related to health behavior risk perception of individuals play a central role. Empirical studies confirm that risk perception influences the decisions on prevention, the engagement in different treatments, as well as the willingness to pay for health care services. Previous studies suggests that subjective risk perception (i.e. how dread is the disease) might influence decisions related to health behavior more than information on the likelihood of the events. Subjective perception of risk involves several social and psychological dimensions, which appear to be an under-studied. The project aims to explore the dimensions of risk perception related to health problems and diseases (i.e. what makes a disease “dread”) and the effect of individuals’ risk perception on decisions related to health behavior (e.g. engagement in preventive actions and treatments), the willingness to pay for health care services and health insurance.
