Study with us

Sociology has a long-standing history at Corvinus University. In the early 1980s, under the leadership of Rudolf Andorka, our department pioneered the training of sociologist-economists. Since the introduction of the Bologna system, we have offered sociology courses at the bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels. Over the years, our program has grown into the second-largest sociology program in Hungary. Although we no longer offer standalone BA and MA Sociology degrees, sociology remains a core part of our academic offerings. Sociology courses are now integrated into all three social science bachelor’s programs at Corvinus – International Relations, Communication and Media, and Philosophy, Politics, Economics (PPE) – through a new specialization called Global Social Challenges launching in the 2025/26 academic year. We also offer a unique interdisciplinary master’s program in Diversity and Inclusion Management, for students eager to combine insights from sociology and management. Finally, we continue to welcome prospective candidates to our PhD program in Sociology.

BA – Global Social Challenges specialisation

In today’s interconnected world, social challenges transcend local, regional, and national boundaries. The Global Social Challenges specialization tackles some of the most pressing issues of our time. Courses explore themes such as the far-reaching effects of globalization, migration dynamics, population aging, increasing inequalities, rising nationalism, systemic corruption, and the spread of misinformation, providing an in-depth look at the complexities of modern society. By engaging with these challenges, students acquire the knowledge, skills, and perspective needed to navigate today’s complexities and make a meaningful societal impact. This specialization prepares students for further studies or professional careers by equipping them with critical skills for both advanced academic pursuits and professional development.

This specialization is offered in the following BA degree programs:

MSc in Diversity and Inclusion Management

In collaboration with the Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Development Department, we are proud to introduce Hungary’s first MSc in Diversity and Inclusion Management. This pioneering one-year program, which can also be taken as a specialization within the two-year MSc in Management, uniquely integrates sociology, human resource management, and organizational behaviour to offer a comprehensive understanding of how diverse life experiences shape interactions in workplaces and broader society. For those passionate about fostering inclusivity, the MSc in Diversity and Inclusion Management provides a clear path toward making a meaningful impact.

The curriculum combines theoretical insights with practical applications, equipping students with the skills to develop and implement strategies that champion inclusivity and address biases related to gender, ethnicity, class, age, and disability. Whether you are new to the field or bringing prior management experience, this program enhances leadership abilities, deepens understanding of diversity dynamics, and strengthens commitment to equity and social justice. Graduates are well-prepared to transform HR systems, shape inclusive organizational cultures, and design policies that celebrate cultural diversity, readying them to lead inclusively across diverse professional environments. Additionally, the degree serves as an excellent foundation for further academic pursuits, including PhD studies or MBA programs.

PhD in Sociology

The Sociology Doctoral Program at Corvinus University of Budapest is designed for driven students passionate about conducting impactful, theory-driven, and methodologically rigorous empirical research. The program equips graduates with the skills and knowledge to excel in the global job market and contributes to advancing sociological inquiry in diverse social contexts. To support our students’ career development and foster an international academic environment, the doctoral training is conducted in English, offering a vibrant, research-oriented community that encourages collaboration and innovation.
