Competitiveness at the Dawn of the New Industrial Revolution (2018-2023)

Our research programme, Competitiveness at the Dawn of the New Industrial Revolution, has run from 2018 to 2023. The Centre’s Competitiveness Report, Competitiveness Snapshot and Book in the book series provide a comprehensive picture of Hungarian firms’ competitiveness.

Which firms can be competitive? Any company can be among the most competitive, regardless of size, activity, ownership and export capacity. Competitiveness is therefore not the preserve of large, foreign and exporting companies.

How do firms adapt to changes in the business context? Less competitive companies feel more vulnerable to the social and political environment. They are a populous group of companies and therefore deserve active economic policy attention.

What is the attitude of Hungarian companies towards technological change? Competitive firms are more proactive and ahead in terms of digital readiness. However, it is often the case that companies do not realise the expected positive effects of digitalisation. When improving competitiveness, it is worth balancing solutions for the future with solutions for daily operations.
