Course Registration and Semester Beginning Guide
Dates and Information on Course Registration
One of the most important administrative tasks of the enrolment week is to register your subjects in time in the Neptun system, so please read the below information carefully.
The dates for subject registration are different for each study programme and please note that there are three study programmes, where some obligatory subjects are registered centrally (that means that you do not register specific subjects) in
- Business and Management (Bachelor’s degree in Hungarian and English)
- International Business (Bachelor’s degree in English)
- Business Data Science (Bachelor’s degree in English)

Course Registration Guide
Please read the course registration guide below to find out how you can register for a subject and what criteria you need to follow.
How can you pick up your courses?
It is a good idea to find out about the courses and lecturers in advance, so that you can plan your timetable before the course opens in neptun. In neptun’s Register for subject menu, tick to list only
It is a good idea to find out about the subject and the timetable of the courses in advance, so that you can plan your timetable before the course opens in neptun. In neptun’s Menu->Subject->Register for subject menu, you need to select the courses you want to add using the checkboxes at the beginning of the row, then click the Add Subject button to add the subject. If a selected course or subject cannot be taken for some reason (e.g. the number of places is full or the admission requirement is not met), information on the exact reason will appear in the push notification in the top right-hand corner.
If both theory and practical courses are advertised for a subject, you must take both. You are free to change these during the course enrolment period, but during the additional enrolment period you can only add extra courses, not drop them.
As a general rule, you must take the subjects that are offered in the Sample Curriculum for you. You can find the syllabus in neptun: Menu->Studies -> Advancement -> Curriculum network. Here you will find all the details for the subject you are studying: Subject Code, Subject Name, Credit, in which semester it is recommended to be taken, and Subject Type. You can find out more about the curriculums here.
What information is in the sample curriculum?
The sample curriculum is made up of compulsory, compulsory optional and elective or optional The sample curriculum is made up of compulsory, compulsory optional and elective or optional subjects, curricular units and criteria. It contains the following information:
- The subject code
- Name of the subject
- The nature of the subject, if any:
C – compulsory: all compulsory subjects must be completed
CE – compulsory elective: for compulsory subjects, the curriculum specifies the number of subjects or credits to be completed
E – elective (optional) subject: the curriculum specifies the number of optional credits to be taken
CR – criterion subject: all criterion subjects must be completed - The number of hours per week (semester for part-time courses)
- Type of delivery, type of course:
l – lecture
p – practical - The credit value of the subject
- The semester of the announcement (autumn/spring)
- Methods of assessment:
pg – grade based on the practical assignments given during the course of the semester
ex – (exam at the end of the semester, but other forms of assessment are possible during the semester)
a – signature
ce – comprehensive examination. - The semester of the course in which the subject is recommended to be taken
- The name of the person responsible for the subject (who is not necessarily the instructor of the subject in the semester)
- The Institute/Department in charge of the subject
- Any prerequisite required for admission to the subject (i.e., which subject you need to have a 2 or better in Neptun at the time you wish to take the subject).
- Equivalent subjects (i.e., equivalent subjects which you have completed as if you had completed the subject in question, these are exceptional cases!)
In a given semester, Neptun will only offer those compulsory or compulsory elective courses that can be taken in that semester. In the case of upper years, of course, those that you have not taken before for some reason will also be listed here.
It is important to know that you can only take one subject in a given time band. If you have any questions about this, you can ask the institute that looks after the subject.
If you cannot register for a subject, it may be because
- You have remaining debt in Neptun.
- You did not set the correct semester (you should choose semester 2024/25/1).
- You have selected too many courses. The maximum number of credits per semester is 42 ECTS.
- There are no places available on the course, you should contact the department / institution to increase the number of places, if possible.
- You do not see it in Neptun, you can ask the department if it has been advertised for the semester.
- You have a clash of classes: the rules on timetable clashes under the current SER in force must be taken into account (students are allowed to have only one timetable clash – lecture with lecture and/or lecture with practice, or special collision rules: Within a given study programme, students are granted an exemption from restrictions applying to scheduling conflicts once in a semester within one (1) timeslot, provided that the scheduling conflict is between two lectures or a lecture and a practice session. In programmes delivered through correspondence and evening delivery mode, students are granted an exemption from restrictions due to scheduling conflicts with respect to subjects taken again in case there is a scheduling conflict between two lectures and/or between a lecture and a practice session. Such exemption within the same programme shall apply for two timeslots per semester. As a general rule, there may be no scheduling conflict between two practice sessions. If a scheduling conflict is allowed, this should be enabled in Neptun. Any possible adverse consequences arising from a scheduling conflict must be borne by the student, this being no justification for requesting concessions, advantages or opportunities to catch up.).
- You have received an error message; it is likely that you must complete another course first (a prerequisite course) in order to take the course.
- If you have not exhausted the maximum number of subjects registration: SER 70.§ (5)
- a) in the case of students who commenced their studies in the 2021/2022 academic year or later, three (3). The student may only take the subject for a fourth (4th) time if his/her request for equity has been accepted,
- b) in the case of students who commenced their studies in the 2022/2023 academic year or later, two (2). The student may only take the subject for a third (3rd) time if his/her request for equity has been accepted,
Central course registration
Exceptions to the above are three (3) degree programmes, where course enrolment is centralised, so that students enrolled in these programmes are registered separately in Neptun. Important to note that they courses will only be registered centrally in the first semester. From the second semester, students majoring in these 3 programmes have to select their courses manually as other majors. Students in the following three courses are not required to take the courses themselves:
- Business and Management (Bachelor’s degree in Hungarian and English)
- International Business (Bachelor’s degree in English)
- Business Data Science (Bachelor’s degree in English)
