On May 15 (Monday) 2023, Corvinus University of Budapest accommodated CEU DI-Corvinus-Harvard Symposium, under the topic of János Kornai’s Holistic Political Economy. As one of the key speakers Eric Stark Maskin, world-wide known American economist and mathematician shared his thoughts on the “Theory of socialism and capitalism”.

Eric Maskin, with Leonid Hurwicz and Roger Myerson, was awarded the 2007 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in recognition of “laying the foundations of mechanism design theory”. At the moment, he holds the positions of Adams University Professor and Professor of Economics and Mathematics at Harvard University.

After the Symposium, Eric Maskin visited the Corvinus Institute for Advanced Studies (CIAS) accompanied by Előd Takáts, the Rector of Corvinus and Zoltán Szántó, the Dean of CIAS. He even met with some international research fellows who are spending their grant period in Budapest during this academic year.

We do hope to have the opportunity to host Eric Maskin at CIAS in the future for a longer time period as well!
