We are pleased to announce that accounting Prof. Aneesh Raghunandan from Yale University will be presenting his latest research on regulatory oversight and employee whistleblowing.

In this paper, Professor Raghunandan investigates how regulators respond to employee whistleblower complaints across different workplace settings. The study finds that certain facilities experience slower and less frequent regulatory responses—even when complaints appear to be serious, as evidenced by higher fines when violations are ultimately found. These disparities are especially evident when regulators face resource constraints and must exercise discretion, suggesting that implicit biases may influence enforcement decisions.

The paper also shows that common protections for whistleblowers, such as anonymity and union presence, do not significantly reduce these disparities. This work highlights an important and previously overlooked issue in the whistleblower process, with meaningful implications for policy and worker protections.
