Free Market – Government Intervention

Habsburg Otto is best known for his political efforts, particularly his role in creating a free and united Europe, but his intellectual legacy also includes a significant interest in economics. Early in his career, he maintained close relationships with key figures of the Austrian School of Economics, such as Friedrich August von Hayek and Ludwig von Mises.
In the late 1950s, he joined the Mont Pelerin Society, which aimed to promote the ideas of a free society and market economy. The purpose of the conference, organized on the 100th anniversary of Ludwig von Mises’ lecture tour in Budapest, is to reflect on the global impact of the Austrian School’s economic tradition and its relevance in addressing the economic and political challenges of the 21st century.
