Applications, research and education projects on sustainability are available

In the following article, we summarise the sustainability-related applications, research and education projects available in 2024, in connection with the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). Amongst others, opportunities available include the LEAP Researchers programme, the Youth Talk research project, the PRME Faculty Teaching Awards, and the i5 Certificate of Engagement. 

The programmes are aimed at a variety of target groups, including masters students, doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers and lecturers. For those who interested, the ERS Hub will also provide assistance with the applications, for more information please contact ershub@uni-corvinus.hu 

LEAP Researchers 

The project is a collaboration between PRME and Oikos International. Oikos International is an international student organisation focusing on economics and management education. They operate in 23 countries around the world. The LEAP programme is aimed at masters students, doctoral students or post-doctoral researchers who are addressing sustainability challenges in their research and/or teaching and are highly motivated for personal and professional development. The training is free of charge and will run for 4-5 hours per month from March to December 2024. At the end, participants will also receive a certificate of completion of the training and will have acquired a range of research and teaching methodology skills in line with PRME and i5 principles

Call for Academics: Research Opportunity on Student Perspectives 

Youth Talk, a research project in partnership between PRME and the Higher Education for Good Foundation (HE4GF), aims to promote new models of higher education to foster more sustainable management education. 

Youth Talk is a research project with a global reach, collecting statistics and data on young people’s attitudes in over 200 countries around the world, particularly in relation to employment, work and further education. 

PRME and HE4GF have launched a call for researchers to process and analyse the resulting datasets. The resulting studies and findings will be channelled into the UN Summit of the Future 2024. The research team is led by Alec Wersun, Honorary Research Fellow, Glasgow School for Business & Society, GCU. 

Working in teams, the participating researchers will be in regular contact with PRME and will be able to publish their findings in highly-ranked open access journals.

2024 PRME Faculty Teaching Awards  

The call is open to PRME partner institutions that excel in transforming and developing their training in line with the SDGs and innovative pedagogical approaches in the following 5 areas: 

• Accounting & Finance 
• Marketing 
• Economics 
• Operations & Analytics 
• Management (includes Human Resources, Strategy, International Business, Leadership, and all other disciplines not listed above) 

To apply: a letter of motivation; a recommendation from the head of the institution and at least 1 former student; documents supporting the innovative teaching methods – including sample lessons, lesson plans, notes, etc. 

• Application deadline: 2024 Mar. 31.  
• Decision: 3 May. 

2024 i5 Certificate of Commitment 

Every quarter, by attending an i5 workshop and completing a 5-minute questionnaire, you can qualify for the i5 Certificate of Commitment 2024. 

During the coming year, you will be able to participate in the following thematic workshops, which will be held quarterly: 

• Student Engagement 
• Leadership 
• Building a community of practice 
• Research

i5 and PRME have also launched a fully digital, visually and functionally enhanced version of the well-known i5 fully digital playbook which is available here. 

Call for Reviewers for revised textbook: ‘Management: Financial, Social, and Ecological Well-Being’  

• Deadline: continuous application 

An expanded team of authors is working to revise the textbook “Management: Financial, Social, and Ecological Well-Being” for publication as an Open Educational Resources (OER) book, making it available to students free of charge. The current version of the textbook has received the 2019 Humanistic Management Pedagogy Book Award from the International Humanistic Management Association. The call for entries is open for this revised version. 

Routledge Call for Book Proposals from PRME Signatory Members 

PRME and Routledge are collaborating on a ground-breaking book series focusing on responsible management education and its practical application. 

The PRME initiative has over 800 signatories in more than 91 countries around the world. In addition to encouraging new institutions to join the initiative, the Routledge/PRME book series aims to educate and inspire actively participating academic and business professionals. 

The volumes in the series will offer conceptual and theoretical frameworks, case studies and good practices, as well as analysis of lessons learned, challenges to overcome and recommendations for change. They will support the implementation of the six PRME principles, as well as the related UN Global Compact principles and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

The Editorial Board is currently accepting proposals and specific volumes and author proposals related to the following topics: 

• Anti-corruption 
• Human rights and business  
• The role of business in peace-building 
• Climate change and the environment 
• Gender equality 
• Addressing poverty 
• Sustainability mindset 
• Sustainable leadership

Call for Academic Expert: UN Secretary General’s Special Task on Policy Barriers 

UN Secretary General António Guterres has tasked the Global Compact to conduct an analysis of policy factors that can help accelerate and stimulate private sector action towards the SDGs, identify innovations towards sustainable finance, and identify key policies and regulations that support the achievement of the SDGs. 

The UN Global Compact is seeking the support of academic experts from the PRME community to support the work, which will run from February to July 2024 and will involve a 15-hour per week commitment from participating researchers/authors whose work will be fed into the report.
