Students’ report: a semester in Czechia – Opportunities abroad

2025-01-21 09:00:00

A semester abroad is not just about studying, it's also about a lifetime of experiences, friendships and cultural exploration. My journey took me to Pilsen in the Czech Republic, where I spent a term filled with travel, adventure and special moments. If you are open to new friendships and experiences, studying abroad can give you unforgettable memories too! The adventures of Alex Hugert.

When I started university, I knew I wanted to use the opportunity of a semester abroad. The Pannonia programme offered the perfect chance to do just that. After much contemplation, I chose the Czech Republic, particularly Pilsen.

The host university had organised a number of activities to help foreign students like me get to know each other, the city, and university life. Students came from almost all corners of Europe. It was incredible to see how different cultures came together in one place, yet how easily we found common ground.

Joint activities, such as sightseeing, sporting events, and cultural programmes, have contributed greatly to the friendships we have developed. One of the best ways to make friends was to travel together. From the first weeks, we started to plan small and big trips. Pilsen is a beautiful and fascinating city, but the rest of the Czech Republic also amazed us. Prague’s old town, Český Krumlov’s fairy-tale streets, and Karlovy Vary’s spas were unforgettable.

One of the most memorable experiences of the semester was spending my birthday abroad. My new friends organised a fantastic surprise party for me that I will never forget. This gesture really showed how strong relationships can be formed in such a short time.

The teachers at the university were friendly and helpful, so it was easy to overcome any difficulties. My lessons were interesting and well structured and I didn’t find them too demanding. This allowed me to have time for other activities besides studying.

If I can give one piece of advice to those considering studying abroad, it is to go for it. It is an experience of a lifetime that will enrich not only your studies but many other aspects of your life. I encourage everyone to take part in as many community activities as possible, whether it’s sightseeing, a party or a simple dinner together. The time spent abroad is not only about learning but also about building friendships, cultural exchanges, and self-discovery. It showed me how much we can learn about the world and ourselves by stepping out of our comfort zone. If you ever get the chance to do something similar, don’t hesitate, you will have an adventure you will never regret!

At Corvinus the study abroad programme for the coming academic year will take place within the framework of the Pannonia Programme. The application opens on January 20, don’t miss this opportunity and apply! More information HERE!
