The wide-ranging options of scholarships at Corvinus University of Budapest can help students in their finances in different ways: while social benefits take living conditions into consideration and put equality of opportunities into focus, there are other grants, which do it differently and can be earned based on performance. Furthermore, there are other aids that can be won thanks to being active in the social and public life, like mid-level management/executive-level jobs at student organizations or helping in organizing university events. In addition, the most basic performance-based scholarship at the university is the academic scholarship, which we will now present to you with all its key elements.
By transforming the university into a foundation, the scholarships have changed as well: instead of the state-funded study program we now have Corvinus Scholarship, a scholarship meant to be used for covering the tuition fee, making free education possible. Besides, academic scholarships have gone through changes as well for students enrolled before and after 2019. A huge advantage of its new form is that even 80 thousand HUF can be obtained by students whose grade point average ends up to be the best. This amount can motivate students significantly, since this way one not necessarily has to work while studying, one doesn’t have to divide their attention between two tasks.
Anyone can apply for the academic scholarship, first year students starting from the second, master’s students starting from the first active semester, since this is the time, they already have an assessable average. One is entitled for the grant thanks to their performance in the semester before and when doing masters the first semester is evaluated based on admission scores, so even sport achievements and other extra points may also provide an advantage. An application can be submitted in both the fall and spring semesters, at the beginning of the academic year through Neptun by filing the right application. The request has the name “Tanulmányi ösztöndíj 1.” and “Tanulmányi ösztöndíj 2.” (depending on whether the student enrolled before or after 2019), and now other documents are needed. The minimal and maximal sums can change, but for now the financial aid is between 10 and 80 thousand HUF. Academic scholarships are given to the highest-performing 20% of students, but in particular cases to even more students.
TIP 1: The request for the application should be submitted at all costs, even if the student doesn’t think their grade is high enough. In the fall semester of 2023/24 for example the budget was expanded during the academic year and like this some students were granted the scholarships afterwards, in one single amount.
TIP 2: It’s worth paying attention to current dates and deadlines. The request is only available for a few days on Neptun at the beginning of the semester. Even though a notification is arriving on the university’s mailing system and on Neptun as well, it can be easily missed because of the two-factor authentication that logs us out of the system.
TIP 3: The scholarship is given for 5 months straight for the students with the right GPA, the university transfers the money at the beginning of the month to the bank account given at the time of enrollment. The first transfer at the beginning of the semester however is done together with the second month’s payment. Therefore, there is no need to panic if the application is judged only in the second month, so account for a processing time of a few weeks.
It is important to know that in the fall semester of 2024/25 the already known process is in force for the application, but in the next spring semester there might be some changes!
