The aim of the ninth edition of this professional forum was to provide participants with a fresh, integrative and universal event to learn about each other’s activities, including the different research directions being pursued in the various training institutions, the emerging generation of students and the current challenges facing the profession.
In light of this, the focus of our CommunicAtIon and Media in the age of AI event this year is on the rise of artificial intelligence, which has already overridden many of the prevailing views and skills, and which is leading (or could lead) to the emergence of new skills.
The renewed, modern Gellért Campus provided an inspiring venue for the varied programme of the one-and-a-half-day professional forum. Following the welcoming speeches of Réka Benczes, Head of Department, and Tamás Bokor, Deputy Head of Department, and the inspiring plenary lecture of Professor Andrea Kárpáti on the relationship between artificial intelligence and creative communication, the participants joined in a round-table discussion on the role of AI in communication and media studies, in higher education and in the labour market of communication and media studies. In addition, representatives from universities presented their research on AI, and planned in a mini crash course what the future of communication and media studies education will look like in five years’ time.
The event concluded with a ceremony to hand over the baton to the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University of Eger, which will carry on the spirit of the Mediastaféta next year.
