Renowned foreign university lecturers celebrate the launch of PPE at Corvinus

The 2023/2024 academic year will see the launch of several new courses at Corvinus, including the PPE (Philosophy, Politics, Economics) bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Political Economy. This time, we are preparing a two-day event especially for our students who have chosen this course, for which we will be hosting teachers from several foreign universities who are also teaching in the PPE programme. On the first day of the event, we will welcome university citizens for public debates related to the PPE disciplines, and on the second day, our students will be able to participate in playful experiments.  

“This two-day event is a celebration of the launch of our PPE degree course, which we consider a great success after a long and hard preparation period. In addition, a large number of people applied for PPE, which confirmed that it was worthwhile to launch the course, which is only available at Corvinus in Hungary,” said Éva Ványi, Head of the Department.   

“We would like our students to feel that they have come to the right place, and that they can get a taste of the professional and playful opportunities offered by the PPE programme before they start their studies,” added Éva Ványi.

The event, which will take place on 5 and 6 September, was conceived and is being organised together with Péter Eső, a lecturer in the PPE programme at the University of Oxford and a Corvinus alumnus. The two-day programme will give students of both the PPE bachelor’s degree and the newly launched Master’s degree in Political Economy a personal taste of the professional content of their courses. 

On the first day, there will be two public debates on the problems of modern society that can arise in all three areas of PPE, with participants in the debates approaching possible responses from a variety of perspectives. The importance of rules and their political economy interpretation and aspect can provide important perspectives for understanding the interface between politics and economics. 

Invited guests are lecturers from the Universität Graz (Christoph Alexander Kuzmics) and the University of Exeter (Julian C. Jamison), both of whom teach in the PPE programmes.   

On the second day, our students will take part in playful experiments on issues in political and economic life.During the activities, they will gain insights into disciplines they will encounter during their PPE undergraduate studies.   

The games are led by experienced group leaders.After a common theoretical introduction, experiments are conducted in groups. At the end of the programme, the groups will share their experiences and lessons learned. Both days will be held in English.
