Conclusion of the ASPA 8th Young Scholar Workshop

Attending excellent presentations and learning alongside the 2024 Young Scholar International Cohort has provided us with renewed motivation to further our research in the field of public administration,

– said the organizers and members of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) after successfully concluding the 8th ASPA Young Scholar Workshop (YSW) at Corvinus University last week.

Dr. Patria Lancer-Julnes, ASPA President and Director of the School of Public Admin, Univeryity of New Mexico, and György Hajnal, Head of the Department of Public Policy at Corvinus, who hosted the event, emphasized the crucial role of international collaboration in the field. They encouraged the 13 participating young scholars to forge strong networks with their peers and senior mentors throughout the week.

The ASPA YSW provides an academically rigorous platform for the presentation and evaluation of research, as well as social networking for young scholars in public administration, management and policy and related subfields.  

During this intensive four-day program, participants presented their work twice, each time receiving feedback from senior scholars on potential areas of improvement. Using feedback from their senior scholar mentors and fellow panellists the participants improved their papers through an iterative process of oral presentations, culminating in the presentation of final versions during the closing showcase.

Two awards were given at the end of the program.

Best Paper Category: 

• Hang Qi (University of Macau) for his paper entitled “Understanding Public Attitudes toward Redistribution: Analysis by Ideological Subgroups.” 

Honorable Mention: Honorable Mention: Merlene-Patrice Bourdeau-Quispe (H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota) for her paper “The Naked Truth about Budget Maneuvers: Evidence from U.S. State Governments 2015-2019.”
