Strategy, Management and Entrepreneurship Program

The highest level of education in the management domain serves both the recruitment of talents for our university and the global academic community, and to support careers in (senior) management, consulting, and expert positions, where scientifically proven methods and procedures based on the latest research findings play a key role. On one hand, the Program is an exciting adventure into the world of business ventures (from start-ups to large corporations), as well as public and non-profit organizations through relevant theories and research results (building on the knowledge already acquired at lower levels). On the other hand, it also provides methodological knowledge that covers all stages of the research life cycle, from the choice of theoretical framework and research model construction, through data collection techniques, to analysis and conclusions. All this together equips the doctoral student to conduct research of scientific quality and to share the results in recognized international forums in our field.

Why the Strategy, Management and Entrepreneurship Program?

The level of analysis within this Program is typically the individual organization, or groups or individuals within it. However, due to the embeddedness of organizations in their context and their interorganizational networking, this cannot be strictly limited. So-called ‘hard’ organizational factors (strategy, business model, organizational structure, projects and operational processes, performance, etc.) can be analyzed as well as ‘soft’ factors and phenomena (e.g. leadership style, organizational culture, identity, learning) or a combination of these. The Program represents paradigmatic plurality, i.e. it is open to interpretative, critical, postmodern, and other alternative philosophies of science, in addition to the prevailing functionalist approach, and actively supports students in learning about and choosing between different scientific paradigms. Within the constraints of the chosen scientific paradigm, it is possible to use both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and even a mix of these within or between research projects. In recent years, qualitative methodologies have been dominated by case study research, content analysis of in-depth interviews, participatory and ethnographic methods, while quantitative methodologies have been dominated by descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate statistical analyses of data collected through questionnaire surveys.
