From April, Senate meetings will be held in English

Internationalisation is at the heart of Corvinus’ strategy, and the introduction of English as a working language into the day-to-day operations of the organisation is an essential step for its successful implementation. 20% of our students are non-Hungarian speakers, and the number of our international colleagues is already close to 70 and growing.    

At its meeting at the end of last year, the Senate supported the inclusion of bilingualism in the university’s OOP without any dissenting votes, and the adopted policy includes a detailed preparation timetable for a gradual and effective transition.  

The move to bilingualism is not only a necessary step for the integration of international students and colleagues, but also a key step to promote diversity and strengthen global relations. Bilingualism also enables all university citizens to participate meaningfully and effectively in the life of the institution, in knowledge sharing and communication.   

Our university has reached a significant milestone in this preparation process: in the special senatorial election held from 15 February to 25 March, the staff of Constituency 5 (Institute of Marketing and Communication Sciences) elected Stanley A. Ward Jr. as the district’s Senate representative. We wish our new senator colleague the best of luck in his new job!  

The following changes in the operation of the Board will take effect at the upcoming meeting on April 9:  

• the spoken language of Senate meetings will be English  
• the language of the Senate will be English and Hungarian  
• for the time being, interpretation will be provided for those wishing to speak in Hungarian.
