Starting from the 2024/2025 application period, the National Research, Development and Innovation Office’s New National Excellence Programme (in Hungarian ÚNKP) and Cooperative Doctoral Programme (in Hungarian KDP) will be closed and replaced by the University Research Fellowship Programme (in Hungarian EKÖP) established by the Government.
The EKÖP and EKÖP-KDP scholarship applications are developed and announced by the universities within the framework set by law, with the calls for applications being subject to prior opinion of the EKÖP Council. The Integrated Excellence Grants Scheme aims to recognise excellence in research and to support young people of outstanding potential to embark on a career in research.
The aim of the University Research Scholarship Programme (EKÖP) is to ensure the supply of new teachers and researchers to higher education institutions, the supply of new researchers and developers to innovative Hungarian businesses, and the involvement of the most talented students in higher education talent management. The University Research Fellowship Programme Cooperative Doctoral Programme (EKÖP-KDP) aims to further increase the number of people in the field of research, development and innovation, primarily in the STEM fields (mathematics, science, technology and information technology), who are committed to enriching their professional knowledge with the latest scientific research and to the social and economic utilization of their knowledge. The Programme provides support for those who, in addition to their doctoral studies, are engaged in research outside their academic institution, in a workplace that will help them to put their scientific results into practice.
The call for applications will be open soon, and we are waiting for the evaluation of the EKÖP Council on the planned material. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to prepare the documentation that is worth extra points (previously submitted or published publications, competition results, Pro Scientia gold medal or OTDK results, etc.) as in previous years, and to start working on the details of the research plan together with the topic leader or, in the case of an EKÖP-KDP proposal, with the Supervisor and the company Expert.
