Congratulations to our students participating in the World Winter University Games

2023-02-13 16:18:42

Corvinus students also represented Hungary at the largest ever World Winter University Games, this time held in Lake Placid, New York.

Held at the end of January, the eleven-day event was attended by 1500 athletes from more than 50 nations and some 600 universities. The Hungarian team travelled to the competition with a larger number of participants than in previous years: more than 50 participants from Hungary competed at the most prestigious winter event in university sport.

In total, 3 of our students (Richárd Dániel Galántai, Máté Péter Sági and Péter Norbert Tóth) strengthened the Hungarian ice hockey team, who were eliminated after 5 group matches: they also played against Slovakia, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, Great Britain and the USA. They won two of their 5 group matches, beating Korea and Great Britain, but failed to find a grip on the Slovakian team and the university teams from Kazakhstan and the USA, which had very strong players, thus they finished 8th at the World Games, which is one place better than the 2019 World Games in Krasnoyarsk.

A larger number of alpine ski teams than in previous years competed in the event, all of them members of the adult national team. In this category, our student Bence Nagy travelled from Corvinus, who competed three times in total.. He finished 9th as a member of the Parallel Slalom mixed team.

Congratulations on participating and we wish them more success in sports.
