Corvinus international accreditation successes 2022 – AACSB, EFMD Accredited Executive MBA

2022-11-03 10:01:28

On October 17, lecturers, leading officials, the staff of the service areas, present and former students and our corporate partners clinked glasses to celebrate the successes achieved in international accreditation this year. The guests attending the ceremony were welcomed by Dr. Péter Fehér, newly appointed Vice-President for International Relations and Accreditations, Prof. Dr. Zoltán Oszkár Szántó, Dean of the CIAS international research centre, and Prof. Dr. Lajos Szabó György, General Vice-Rector.

In 2022, as a result of almost 10 years of efforts, the Corvinus was the first institution in Hungary to acquire the AACSB institutional accreditation, taking another step in the direction of the ‘triple crown’ international qualification.

‘This qualification represents an important value for our students, as they acquire current and useful knowledge and skills by international standards, too, so their investment in education will be more profitable.

The international qualification represents a value for employers, too, as the international accreditation requirements emphasize – apart from the high academic level of the programmes – the importance of regular dialogues with employers and the harmonisation of the programmes with employers’ requirements.

For the Corvinus, the AACSB accreditation opens new doors to the elite community that determines international economic education, helps us achieve better positions in rankings, and opens new market opportunities’, summarised the benefits of the AACSB accreditation Dr. Péter Fehér.

Prof. Dr. Lajos György Szabó added: ‘This accreditation has an important meaning for both internal and external stakeholders. For internal stakeholders, i.e. university citizens, it shows that the transformation of the University is proceeding in a good direction, as we have achieved important results in education development, research results, number of publications and fostering student talent. For external stakeholders, primarily for future students and companies and institutions, it shows that the strategy and the operation of the University meets the requirements of international university standards.’

Prof. Dr. Zoltán Oszkár Szántó, who has managed the AACSB preparations since 2020 autumn, found it important to point out, in addition to successes and positive feedbacks, the development tasks of the next five years, for which he encourages the Corvinus community to think together and cooperate:

  • make quality research and international professional experience key parts of lecturers’ excellence, as these are the values that can make the Corvinus truly international;
  • increase revenues from tenders and other corporate sources to make the portfolio of incomes more diverse and to ensure financial stability;
  • apply the Assurance of Learning (AOL) system for the whole education portfolio of the Corvinus (in a five-year cycle, meter the learning of programme competencies, improve them, and meter again).

At the celebration, we expressed our appreciation for our Corvinus-MSM-SEED Executive MBA programme that was acknowledged with an EFMD Accredited status in 2022, and has successfully held the qualification earlier called EPAS since 2009. This programme-level accreditation rigorously examines, among others, the contents of the programme, within that programme- and subject-level competencies, their metering feedbacks, quality development process, the lecturers’ profiles and the career paths of graduated students, as part of the output results of the programme.

In the preparations for and implementation of an accreditation of this kind, more than a hundred colleagues and external partners are involved. In addition, if we consider the fact that international networking of several years is an important part of the success, the number of contributors is even higher. All three leading officials expressed their gratitude for the contributions of people participating in the preparations for the accreditation to the successes. In his speech, Péter Fehér pointed out that the heads and the staff of the former Business and Management Faculty had also played important roles in laying the foundations of this success for many years. Therefore he expressed his gratitude to Dr. Ágnes Hofmeister and Dr. Zita Zoltayné Paprika former deans, Tünde Tátrai, former project manager of the AACB, and all the staff members involved in the preparation process. Special thanks were expressed to the accreditation colleagues responsible for the operative implementation of the two accreditations, Antal Piros, Mónika Csizmár and Andrea Toarniczky, Executive MBA study programme leader.

Thank you for gracing our celebration with your presence and for your efforts made to achieve this success!
