Representing Corvinus University for the first time in this competition, team members Lili Cseh, Gergő Garamvölgyi, Tamás Gáspár, and Henrik Szalay showcased their skills on an international stage. Dr. habil. Miklós Stocker, head of Institute of Strategy and Management, guided the team’s preparations and had previously mentored three of the four members in the Strategic Analysis specialization. The team was tasked with developing solutions for ESG challenges faced by Thailand’s Krungsri Bank. In the 28-hour case-solving marathon, they worked cohesively and effectively to create a comprehensive proposal, ultimately winning their division against teams from North America, Europe, and Asia. As the only non-Asian university team in the final five, Corvinus proudly advanced to the competition’s final round.
The competition was ultimately won by the team from the National University of Singapore (NUS), followed by the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in second place, and Singapore Management University (SMU) in third. Corvinus University’s team achieved an impressive fourth place, tying with the team from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
We can be proud of our team’s solution; our students developed a deep and comprehensive approach, emphasizing the inter-group synergies within the corporation
, said Miklós Stocker.
Throughout the challenge, the team continuously refined their solution, addressing the case’s broad issues across marketing, finance, and ESG. As Gergő remarked,
We managed to impress the jury with our solution because we created a truly thorough approach, made possible by the increasingly cohesive dynamic within our team during the competition.
Tamás added, while there is still room to improve presentation skills among the world’s top universities, the team can be extremely proud of their professional performance.
The competition was not only about business challenges; the organizers enriched the experience with numerous unique programs for the participants.
Thai culture is amazing – sightseeing, tasting local foods, and the incredible atmosphere all contributed to making Bangkok an unforgettable experience for us
Henrik recalled.
The event provided an excellent opportunity for the teams from all around the globe to build international connections through social programs while also strengthening bonds within each team. For Lili, one of the most memorable parts was seeing the team grow closer as they tackled the challenging tasks together:
By the end of the 28-hour challenge, we were so in sync that the experiences we shared during the competition only strengthened our friendship.
Among the programs, the team enjoyed city tours, explored the local cuisine – including the famous Bangkok night market – and participated in cultural activities. Additionally, they had a unique opportunity to experience Muay Thai, where they practiced kicks and punch techniques alongside professional fighters. These activities not only entertained the team but also strengthened their bond, a connection that was evident in their case solution.
Corvinus University’s team performance in the Thammasat Undergraduate Business Challenge 2024 finals showcased not only their professional skills but also their dedication. The experiences and insights gained, from cultural programs to networking with competitors, contributed to the team returning home with positive experiences and unforgettable memories. Their strong performance in the finals and the global recognition they achieved reaffirm Corvinus’s prominent place in the field of international business case competitions. This competition marked another milestone in the team members’ personal and professional growth and will undoubtedly lead to more success in the future.
Congratulations to the team, their mentor, and the Case Track professors! We can be proud of their diligent preparation and hard work, which enabled our university to compete with the most prestigious case-solving teams on the international stage.
