An outstanding city to live in
Budapest is one of the most affordable university cities in Europe. It scored 92 out of 100 in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2024 ranking, making it the 32nd most liveable city in the world. Typically, the monthly cost of a university dormitory room in Budapest is between €100-200 per month, while renting a flat costs €250-750 per month. Food and other expenses amount to approximately €250-350 per month, so the total monthly cost of living is around €500-1100.
Scholarships and discounts
The Hungarian government offers scholarships for international students to study at the university tuition free. These include the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship, open to applicants from 90 countries on 5 continents, and the Diaspora scholarship, which is open to applicants with proven Hungarian ancestry.
In addition, we offer tuition fee discounts at Corvinus for international students who fund their studies themselves. If you successfully pass the entrance exams to our bachelor’s or master’s programmes by the end of February and pay the first semester tuition fee by the end of March, you will receive a 10% discount on your first year’s tuition fee.
If you initially applied as a Stipendium Hungaricum student and you successfully pass our entrance examinations but are not nominated to the programme, we can support you with a 10% discount on your first year’s tuition fees, should you decide to continue with your application and enrol with us as a self-funded student.
Other financial benefits
As a self-funded student, you can also receive a performance-based study grant, with a maximum of approximately €200/month in the current academic year. Moreover, the university and the Hungarian state support self-funded students to study abroad for a semester in another country, or to participate in double degree programmes, which include the CEMS programme. Corvinus University is the only Hungarian university which is a member of this prestigious network of 34 universities worldwide.
