The Hungarian call, announced this May under the management of the National Research, Development, and Innovation Office (NRDI), offers researchers in Hungary an opportunity to prepare for successful participation in the European Research Council (ERC) funding programs. A total of 56 project proposals were submitted for the EXCELLENCE call under the National Research Excellence Program, requesting a combined 9.4 billion HUF. Out of these, 24 outstanding research projects will receive a total of 2.6 billion HUF in non-refundable funding.
From Corvinus University, Dániel Hörcher secured 150 million HUF for his project titled Dynamic Urban Structures in Transportation Networks: A Quantitative Spatial Economics Approach, while Johannes Wachs was awarded 70 million HUF for his project titled The Economic Geography of Digital Innovation. In addition to the two researchers from Corvinus, funding was granted to 11 applicants from HUN-REN, seven from ELTE, two from the University of Szeged, and one each from BME and Semmelweis University.
The Research Excellence Council based its recommendations for supported applications on the proposals submitted to the ERC and the corresponding evaluation feedback. The final funding decisions were made by the president of the NRDI on the 5th of December. Eligibility for the call required applicants to demonstrate their standing among the leaders of the international scientific community through significant international project achievements recently.
Congratulations to both Corvinus researchers!
