Horizon Europe Cluster 6

Upcoming calls for proposals in the fields of "Food, bioeconomy, natural resources, agriculture and environmental protection".

The underlying paradigm of Cluster 6 is the need for a transformative change of the EU economy and society to reduce environmental degradation, halt and reverse the decline of biodiversity and better manage natural resources while meeting the EU’s climate objectives and ensuring food and water security.  

We recommend the following 7 destinations to your attention: 

1. Biodiversity and ecosystem services 

This destination will support research and innovation (R&I) activities that help maintain ecosystems in good ecological condition and a clean and healthy environment for the EU, including water, soil and air. There are 12 topics listed under the following calls:

2. Fair, healthy and environment-friendly food systems from primary production to consumption 

R&I under this destination will steer and accelerate the transition to sustainable, safe, healthy and inclusive food systems from farm to fork, ensuring food and nutrition security for all and delivering co-benefits for the environment, health, society and economy. There are 37 topics listed under the following 3 calls:

3. Circular economy and bioeconomy sectors 

This destination and its topics target climate-neutrality, zero pollution, fair and just circular and bioeconomy transitions. This cover safe, integrated circular solutions at territorial and sectoral levels, for important material flows and product value chains. There are 16 different topics listed under the following 2 calls:

4. Clean environment and zero pollution 

This destination seeks to halt and prevent pollution by focusing on: 

  • removing pollution from fresh and marine waters, soils, air, including from nitrogen and phosphorus emissions 
  • substituting harmful chemicals 
  • improving the environmental sustainability and circularity of bio-based systems; reducing environmental impacts of and pollution in food systems.

5. Land, ocean and water for climate action 

This destination will support solutions for climate and environmentally friendly practices to reduce emissions of major greenhouse gases, other pollutants and the environmental impact of ocean and land use changes and agricultural activities. There are 7 topics listed under the following call:

6. Resilient, inclusive, healthy and green rural, coastal and urban communities 

Under this destination, transdisciplinary R&I with a strong social, behavioural sciences and humanities dimension (SSH), which pay attention to gender aspects, will enable a sustainable, balanced, equitable and inclusive development and management of rural, coastal and urban areas in several ways. There are 5 topics listed under the following calls:

7. Innovative governance, environmental observations and digital solutions in support of the Green Deal  

Transformative changes such as those required within the European Green Deal are dynamic processes that require appropriate governance. At the same time, to ensure coordination as well as collaborative and informed decision-making, governance requires multiple channels and networks that provide readily available and robust data and information from different sources. R&I activities under this destination aim to both: experiment with new ways to govern the transition process and strengthen the governance. There are 13 topics listed under the following calls:

Please note that while temporary restrictions on accessing new Horizon Europe funding are in place, Corvinus researchers are fully eligible to participate in proposals. In case of successful application, our researchers can benefit from a dedicated Hungarian governmental fund for the implementation of the project.
