Throughout the competition, one has the chance to participate in different kinds of events, such as the first round of the competition, the 14-hour-long hackathon held in November last year, and to mingle with like-minded people during these programs. The goal is to think and develop together, besides finding solutions to the biggest problems of digital education, since nowadays, mental well-being, media consciousness and their education are the most important.
Little Princedom
Embark on an exciting digital journey with your child, guided by The Little Prince and the Fox, learning about media awareness and mental well-being through an instructive, delightful and interactive game!
Little Princedom is the plan of a storytelling format online educating game for kids and their parents, to learn about media literacy and basic human values. The platform is based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s novel, The Little Prince, therefore the eye-friendly, low-stimuli graphic design and the recurring characters are all based on this timeless classic representing eternal values, which according to the team, holds a message for all generations. The group targeted by them is the age range from 8 to 12, because during the research work, they experienced that this age group is the one that can still be influenced and is worth doing so.
The minimum age on social media platforms is thirteen, so with the hope of prevention and preparation for the dangers of media, we must focus on this age group
– they said.
Their goal is to raise awareness about conscious media usage and mental well-being, therefore, they deal with 4 main topics in the game: my relationship with technology, the world, others and myself.
After all, if we are not at peace with ourselves, how could we be able to connect with others
– Berci said about the reasons why they chose these topics. Following the journey and space theme of The Little Prince every main topic appears as a solar system. Under the bigger topics, they deal with smaller subtopics, such as empathy, respect, cybersecurity, fear of missing out (FOMO), online bullying, social loneliness, different types of addictions, or excessive screen usage. Thanks to the storytelling format through completing levels and making decisions, the user can learn about these important social and personal problems, moreover about how to deal with them. When the child finishes a level the app asks the parent to give permission to continue and also motivates them to talk with their children about the given topic. One of the specialties of the app is that parent and child, not necessarily at the same time, but depending on each other can learn together, thanks to which they can develop together and open, honest, trusting, open communication, overcoming generational gaps.
In my opinion, a great value of this app is that it is not aiming to educate the members of the family separately, but brings them together through starting a conversation
– Veronika Pelle highlighted.
Media awareness has a positive effect in all fields of life and on our environment, which is why it has become such an important topic for us. We believe it is our responsibility and that we have the future of the next generation in our hands
– Panna explained.
Throughout the months of preparation it has become the teams’ personal mission to help in the education of a more conscious, critically thinking, empathic generation. Besides, they consider this topic important amongst university students as well because they hope that one day when their fellow students become parents, they will make decisions taking similar value systems into account and with that assuring a safer future for their children.
The first generation of parents is coming of age, who had these technological devices and platforms in their lives growing up
– highlighted not just one of them. Generation Z is the age group that has not grown up in digitalization yet but can confidently use technology. Because of this, they ought to find solutions to problems never seen or experienced before in order to reach a better tomorrow, to which Little Princedom would like to contribute with this plan.
