The event on 3 December focused on the Hungarian and EU food quality systems and the presentation of trademarks and trademark systems indicating Hungarian origin.
According to Attila Jámbor, head of the institute at Corvinus University of Budapest, it is important for them to play a role in shaping attitudes and educating people about sustainability. Gábor Derdák, Head of the Small Producers, Cooperation and Local Initiatives Department of the NAK, shared that trademarks are also beneficial for the producer, as they help to build trust in the product. Csaba Fieszl, Secretary General of the Hungarian Rural Network, also gave a speech, stressing the importance of strengthening short supply chains and the presence of local products.
Áron Török, Head of Department at the Corvinus University of Budapest, gave a presentation on food quality systems and purchase motivations among Hungarian consumers, which is also available here. The awareness of national labels is typically higher among domestic consumers, but participants also learned that it takes a lot of time and other resources to familiarise themselves with a label.
After the presentation, the first roundtable discussion and further presentations began, with participants all highlighting the advantage of brands being more cost-effective through their combined marketing power.
During the event, a farmers’ market was also open to participants, where producers and trademark holders presented and sold their products. The Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture also contributes to the Corvinus Market with the aim of supporting and promoting Hungarian products and bringing reliable, high quality Hungarian products to consumers’ tables.
