“Passing on the Mentorship I Received” – Interview with Kristóf-Csáki Csilla, PhD Student at Corvinus University of Budapest
Why did you decide to become a PhD student?
– I have been drawn to an academic and teaching career for a long time, as I was already involved in various research projects and conferences during my undergraduate studies. Throughout my master’s program, I became even more convinced that scientific work is not only an intellectual challenge but also an opportunity to share knowledge and support others. Corvinus has always been an inspiring environment for me, and I would like to contribute to the development of research and education in the long run. The mentorship I received from my professors and fellow researchers had a profound impact on me, and I want to carry forward this approach to future generations.
What is the best thing about being a PhD student?
– The most exciting part for me is the freedom to conduct research and the opportunity to work on a topic that is both highly relevant and important. I am studying the role of artificial intelligence in healthcare, a rapidly evolving field full of challenges and new questions. Additionally, being part of the academic community is truly inspiring—the conferences, discussions, and mentorship all contribute to my continuous growth and learning. Teaching also gives me great motivation, as it allows me to give back some of the support I once received.
What has surprised you the most during your PhD studies—something you didn’t expect at all?
– I knew that pursuing a PhD would require a great deal of dedication and hard work, but I didn’t expect how many different skills I would need to develop along the way. Beyond research, academic life involves publishing, science communication, grant writing, and even project management. However, a very positive surprise has been the supportive community around me—my supervisor, fellow PhD students, and the university environment all help make this journey not just challenging but also incredibly rewarding.
