Physical Education is a mandatory subject at the Corvinus, which means that within four semesters of the start of our university studies, we have to complete a PE programme of two semesters. Luckily, the Physical Education and Sport Centre offers a lot of sports facilities to students, so that everyone could find something to his/her liking. Students may choose from individual and team sports, and may join free of charge or fee-paying courses, too. The gym, swimming and dancing are very popular, but the available places get quickly reserved in other sports, too, when the subjects are selected.

In the last three semesters, the majority of PE lessons did not go in the usual way, as on-line education because of the coronavirus did not allow for that. The good news is that according to the current provisions in higher education, teaching – including sports activities – will start in in-presence form in September at the University.

What kind of sports clubs are available at the Corvinus?

The Közgáz Sports Club and Student Sports Club has been organising competitive and free-time sports at the University for many years. Within the sports club, we have different sections, such as football, basketball, volleyball, futsal, aikido and judo. Within these branches, university teams are organised, and they participate in competitions and championships among universities.

How can you get into a university team?

If you want to be admitted to a student sports team, all you need is love and enthusiasm for the given branch of sport. However, in the competitive teams, it is necessary to have relevant experiences, and you need to show an outstanding performance in the selection trainings, too. Independently of the prescribed criteria, we encourage all the students to try several branches of sport, join the teams and enter for competitions and take part in other sports events.

What are the highest-level university championships?

In most competitive sports, the University-College National Championshipis organised. Several sports have competitions in the whole year, for instance volleyball, basketball and football. In other sports, such as swimming, triathlon and fencing, there are national championships only, which require invitations or nominations.

What sports facilities can we expect to have from September?

  • According to the current plans of the Physical Education and Sport Centre, all branches of sports can be started in the autumn semester in in-presence form.
  • In addition, they would like to allow the use of gyms outside lessons, too.
  • You will be able to join a number of sports clubs – for instance women’s and men’s basketball, volleyball and handball – in the following semester.
  • They are planning to start the Közgáz League in futsal, too, and Corvinus teams will take part in most university and college championships in a lot of branches of sport.

Hos to register for PE classes?

Students in Bachelor programmes may choose form both free of charge and fee-paying classes – such as tennis, zumba, salsa and ballroom dancing.

You have to register for the classes through the Neptun, in the same way as for other subjects. In the autumn semester of academic year 2020/21, select the TES_TESTNEVA subject, and choose from the various courses.

Students in Master programmes and students who have already completed the two mandatory semesters can also do sports. In exchange for a 5000 HUF uniform fee, they can join the free PE lessons, if they register through Neptun.

If you wish to have a deeper insight into the sports life at the University, you will find additional useful and detailed information on the Corvinus Sport Facebook site and on Sports and Health .
