Residence permit information for international students

International students, exchange and visiting students who will finish their studies at the end of this semester and who will be leaving Hungary for good any time until September 1, 2021 do not have to read on as their residence permit (even if the date of validity expired sometime after November 4, 2020) is officially valid until 30 days after the official end of the pandemic emergency period in Hungary.

This information affects only those who are
 

  • 3rd country nationals who require a residence permit to study in Hungary and who will be in Hungary also for all or part of the 2021/2022 academic year and whose residence permit was valid on November 4, 2020, but has since become (based on the date of validity on the residence permit) “expired” or is due to expire in the near future.
  • 3rd country nationals who are in Hungary with a student mobility residence permit or a student mobility certificate and who will continue their studies at Corvinus in the fall semester of the 2021/2022 academic year and whose residence permit expired sometime after November 4, 2020 or is due to expire in the near future.

We have been informed that the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (Immigration Office) will reopen its customer service offices without the need for a prior appointment: partially from 25th May 2021 and fully from 14th June 2021.



In keeping with Government Decree 50/2020, residence permits valid on 4th November 2020 will continue to be valid regardless of their original date of expiry for 30 days from the end of the declared state of emergency in Hungary. (Please note: The state of emergency is currently still in effect.)

In view of the Immigration Office’s partial/full reopening, It is recommended, that students who have a residence permit that expired after November 4th or is due to expire soon and who are currently in Hungary submit their application to renew their residence permit already now, via the EnterHungary site. Applications submitted during the partial opening in May via EnterHungary will be processed without the need for an appointment.

In the case of applications submitted via EnterHungary, the renewed residence permit will be mailed out to the address you registered at the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (Immigration Office). If by chance you have changed your address and are no longer living at the address stated on your address card, you must urgently register your new address at the Immigration Office and apply for the renewal of your residence card only after your new address has been officially registered.

All international students must inform the Immigration Authorities and Corvinus of their change of address withing max. 5 workdays.

After registering as a private person, choose: Application for residence permit / Study or student mobility.

IMPORTANT:

  • You can download the signed and sealed documents required from Corvinus University for the renewal application (certificate of enrollment and proof of having paid the tuition fee – if you are a self-financed student and not a scholarship student (e.g. Stipendium Hungaricum) from Neptun:
  • Certificate of Enrollment: Neptun / Information / General Forms: 2020/21/2 – Certificate of Enrollment (in English) or 2020/21/2 – Hallgatoi jogviszony igazolas (in Hungarian) – either version will be accepted
  • For self-financed students: proof of having paid the tuition fee: Neptun / Finances / Invoices
  • Scholarship students should attach a copy of their Letter of Award or proof of the extension of the scholarship period.


Students can also start the application process for the renewal of their documents in person if they wish to do so at the following address:

The Customer Service Office of the Directorate General for Aliens Policing is open as follows:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 8:00 h to 14:00 h
  • Friday: 8:00 h to 11:30 h
