Visit of Professor Immanuel Bomze at CCOR
Professor Immanuel Bomze, past president of Association of European Operational Research Societies and former vice-rector of University of Vienna visited CCOR on 9 September. Bomze is an Associate Editor for five international journals and for over 50 scientific journals he acted as a reporting referee. Between 2011 and 2017 he served as an Editor of the European Journal of Operational Research. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the EURO Journal on Computational Optimization. He visited CCOR at the beginning of September.
Mini-courses and workshops during September
Members of CCOR organized two mini-coursed and three workshops during September. Sándor Kristály, professor at Babes-Bolyai University and at Óbuda University visited Corvinus Institute for Advanced Studies (CIAS) at the beginning of September. A workshop entitled “Optimization on curved spaces” was organized on 8 September with two speakers, Sándor Kristály and Miklós Pálfia (BCE). Sándor Kristály also held a graduate mini-course including three presentations in this topic. On 15 September, members of CCOR also organized a workshop entitled “Three faces of game theory”, where Dov Samet from Tel-Aviv University, David Bartl from University in Opava and Ziv Hellman from Bar-Ilan University held presentations. Zsolt Darvay, associate professor at Babes-Bolyai University was also guest at CIAS. A workshop is organized on 22 September entitled “A class of algebraically equivalent transformations for symmetric cone horizontal linear complementarity problems” with three speakers, Zsolt Darvay, Petra Renáta Rigó and Roland Török. A graduate mini-course in this topic was held by Zsolt Darvay.
Tibor Illés, Head of CCOR appointed Professor
Tibor Illés and his colleagues founded the Corvinus Centre for Operations Research at Corvinus University in September 2020. Tibor Illés published more than 60 research papers in high quality international and national journals, and conference proceedings getting more than 700 citations on these works. He participated at more than 70 conferences in Europe and North America and gave research talks at those conferences. He was supervisor of more than 50 master students. Five PhD students successfully defended their PhD dissertations under his supervision, and four of them received the most prestigious award for young, applied mathematicians the Gyula Farkas Prize by János Bolyai Mathematical Society. Dr. Illés also led several applied operations research projects for leading Hungarian companies’ during the past twenty-five years. Starting from 1 September 2022 Tibor Illés is a Professor at Corvinus University of Budapest.
Visit of Professor Csaba Farkas at CCOR
Csaba Farkas, Professor at Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania visited the Rector of the Corvinus University of Budapest and the Dean of the Corvinus Institute for Advanced Studies. On 13 September, he also held a presentation at the CCOR Optimization Seminar entitled “Compact Sobolev embeddings on non-compact manifolds with applications”.
Organization of sessions at KOI 2022 Conference
Members of CCOR have been invited to organize sessions at KOI 2022 – International Conference on Operational Research, which will be held in Croatia between 28–30 September 2022. Marianna Eisenberg-Nagy, Tibor Illés, Tamás Solymosi and Petra Renáta Rigó organized three sessions entitled “Novel Applications of Operations Research”, “Computational Mathematical Optimization” and “Game Theory” at KOI 2022 Conference that will take place in Šibenik, 28–30 September 2022. Almost one quarter of the presentations were organized by members of CCOR.
Further information about the conference can be found here.
