Why did you decide to become a PhD student?

I wanted to become a PhD student because I’ve been working in digital advertising for years, and I wanted to understand the scientific explanations behind this field more deeply. My goal was to gain a perspective on my field that is scientifically grounded and offers a viewpoint that professionals in the industry generally don’t have. I sought a level of professionalism that would enable me to understand the underlying causes of the dynamics within the field, grasp the cause-and-effect relationships of specific events more precisely, and thus become a more credible expert.

What’s the best thing about being a PhD student?

The best part of the PhD experience is the many outstanding people and the supportive community around me. I find human connections very important, as they not only foster professional development but also create great communities. During my PhD journey, I’ve made new friends, met amazing people, and contributed to the professional development of many students through my teaching. I’ve also learned a great deal from the professors who guide me throughout my PhD path. I particularly value the conferences and research opportunities related to topics that truly interest me. So, for me, the PhD experience is not just a community experience but also an excellent professional opportunity.

What surprised you about the PhD program, or what did you not expect at all?

The academic environment and the researcher’s path have their own unique customs and ways of life, which most new students are not familiar with. It took me some time to get used to it, with all its favorable and less favorable features. However, my colleagues and, of course, my supervisors, who are both very supportive in my case, have been a huge help in this. The PhD program is a serious commitment, and it offers many opportunities and experiences that I hadn’t thought of before.
