The University of Economics Athletic Club was founded in 1923, the third year of the establishment of the Royal Hungarian University, Faculty of Economics, so next year we can commemorate a centenary. The Articles of Association may have come at the Technical University in 1934, when the József nádor University of Technology and Economics was established, and the Faculty of Economics was one of its faculties. The structure of youth associations in the institutions participating in the university integration of the year 1934 had already changed by the end of the year. The Hungarian Royal József nádor University of Technology and Economics Athletic and Football Club (MAFC) was established.
The document is all the more valuable for us because we have few information on the university sports life. The Physical Education Act of 1921 made physical education classes compulsory until the age of 21, which gave impetus to the creation of university sports clubs. However, we do know about the sports life of the Faculty of Economics that the football section was the most popular. From the target shooting section, Géza Szabados became a member of the Hungarian Olympic team in the 1920s.
The document transfer between the two archives is exemplary. With that gesture, we contribute to the understanding of each other’s fairly common past, and to the development of professional relations. Vilmos Zsidi, head of the Corvinus University Archives, accepted the 31-page document, and thanked the BME Archives for its preservation.
