Unfortunately, due to the flu season, 4 of the players who participated did not recover in time. The organizers were flexible and agreed to change the players, but on Friday we could not get anyone for both days. Our team was not ready for our first match, and our goalkeeper was among the absentees, so a defeat was almost inevitable (0:5). Since we saw Sapientia’s win against Sepsi ’08 before our second match, we only had a chance to qualify if we beat Deportivo, which we did (2:0). On the second day of play, we lost a very close match against Sapientia 3:2, but we moved on to play the first place team of Group E in third place.
One of the basic truths of football has been confirmed, namely that football is played on goals. We attacked throughout the game and created many chances, but the goalkeeper or the goalpost caught us out and we went down by an unlucky goal. The tournament was won by Sapientia, who scored only one goal in the knockout stage, which was less than against us in the group game.
The Corvinus team consisted of, from left to right, Máté Papp, Mánuel Mágó, Dennis Horváth, Zsolt Havran, Tibor Lesku, Tamás Mizik, József Ráti, Péter Biró and Péter Biró, while Tibor Kántor joined us for Saturday’s game.
