The CaseIT international MIS case study competition, organised by Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, took place from 18-24 February. 15 teams participated in the invitation-only competition, with the Corvinus team representing the European continent in the international field, together with the University of Manchester and the Technological University of Dublin.
The members of the Corvinus team, Félix Bary, András Bodnár, Zsolt Mundweil and Gergely Póta, are all students of the Bachelor of Business and Management. The team was prepared for the competition by Márta Aranyossy, Péter Fehér and Krisztián Varga in the Business IT Case Studies course (and beyond).
The organisers facilitated the first two days of the competition with some light activities to familiarise the teams with each other and with the city of Vancouver, the host of the competition, and the beautiful natural environment surrounding it. The third day of the competition was all about work: the teams had 5 hours to come up with a convincing solution to the first case, focusing on health artificial intelligence applications. The Corvinus team successfully overcame this obstacle and took first place in their division.
The next day, the stakes were raised even higher, with the 24-hour case solution. The case was sponsored by Pacific Coastal Airline, a British Columbia-based regional airline. The teams were tasked with rethinking the growing company’s internal IT systems, planning technology transformation with a focus on integration opportunities.
In the presentation of the second case, Corvinus was only beaten by Wilfrid Laurier University, allowing our team to present their solution in the Wild Card round as runners-up in the division. The final of the competition was won by HEC Montreal, with the University of Washington in second place and Ivey Business School on the podium in third.
Congratulations to the team and the lecturers!
