Library News: Focusing on Data Bases, Software, and Trainings

Corvinus Library has extended its portfolio of databases and software. Researchers can now access and use a wide selection of data on the premises or remotely. Research support trainings offered by the Library aim to enhance research publication success.

New research data source


KRTK databank: as a result of the cooperation between the Library and the Research Management Office, the KRTK-databank of the Centre for Economic and Regional Studies has become available. The databank offers access to their micro-level databases to support empirical research at Corvinus. Parts of the database are:

To use the database, Corvinus Faculty/Researchers must have their research plan approved by the University. Corvinus Students can also have access under the supervision of a Corvinus Faculty member. More information is available on the library’s homepage.

Pulvita Healthcare Databank:
PULVITA Healthcare Databank combines the most important health information sources of Hungary. Data are collected from the following institutions: NEAK (National Health Insurance Fund of Hungary), KSH (Hungarian Central Statistical Office) and OTH (National Public Health and Medical Officer Service.) To use the databank pre-registration is needed. For more information check the Library’s homepage.

Refinitiv (Eikon) and Bloomberg databases: thanks to a supplementary agreement, both databases remain available through remote access until the end of August. For Bloomberg the registration must be completed individually and it will be verified by the Department of Finance.
For using Eikon, a registration request needs to be submitted to szolg@uni-corvinus.hu. Since we have a limited number of accounts (3), applicants might have to wait for a short period. For more information check the Library’s homepage.

Qualtrics: from 2021, our access to Qualtrics – survey tool has been extended to the whole Corvinus community, so students can also apply for an account. This software facilitates and automates the process of conducting surveys and polls; the platform is user-friendly, no IT-skills are needed for its use. It contains more than 100 different types of questions so it can be customised easily, and even multimedia content can be incorporated into the surveys. Results are downloadable immediately into analysis softwares (e.g. SPSS). Service is restricted to use for research purposes. More information is available on the Library’s homepage.

Trial database: continuous trial access to different Oxford-databases is available until 31 October 2021. These databases are the following, Oxford Handbooks Online, Oxford Scholarship + University Press Online, Very Short introductions, Oxford Research Encyclopedias and Oxford bibliographies. Research support training courses

In January and February, the Library launched a pilot project of training courses for Faculty with the aim of enhancing research publication success. The trainings covered nine topics including bibliometrics basics, open science, academic social networks and short English academic writing courses at intermediate and advanced level. There were 23 trainings with 187 participants in the pilot project.
Based upon the success of the pilot the Library is now involved in the personal performance development system introduced by the University. Library staff, together with guest lecturers from HIPO and the National Research, Development and Innovation Office, run short courses for Faculty on the following topics:

To offer flexbility in scheduling, courses with the same content are offered on two different dates. Personal consultations are also provided for the participants.
Several of the courses were accomplished in May, with 81 participants so far. The programme is scheduled to continue in September.
