New publication: Reproductive choices and climate change

Ivett Szalma, associate professor of our department, and Júlia Borbála Szczuka, PhD candiate at Corvinus, have recently published an interesting new study titled Reproductive Choices and Climate Change in a Pronatalist Context in the East European Politics and Societies journal.

The study examines how women of reproductive age make childbearing decisions according to their views on climate change and how they rationalize their reproductive choices in Hungary. The research is based on 44 semi-structured interviews conducted between 2020 and 2022. The results show that most interviewees consider having children to be an important part of women’s lives, and some even consider it a duty, not only to maintain the population, but also because they believe that future generations will be more environmentally aware and will offer solutions to the climate crisis.
