“RE-ACT – Smart universities acting regionally” research at final stage
Partner universities of the RE-ACT project – Porto Business School (coordinator, Portugal), Corvinus University of Budapest (Hungary), Technical University of Košice (Slovak Republic), Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj Napoca (Romania), University of Macerata (Italy) and SERN (Startup Europe Regions Network) – created a self-assessment tool especially for higher education institutions (HEIs) that helps identifying and improving their role in developing and implementing research and innovation strategies for smart specialisation (RIS3). The project team conducted a multi-phase qualitative research including literature review, Delphi and interviews to build statements about HEIs’ role in the regional innovation ecosystem. The statements were validated by experts in validation workshops, and an online self-assessment tool was elaborated named “HEInnovate for RIS3.” In order to make its use smoother, the partner universities organised trainings to which other HEIs could apply.
The final stage of the RE-ACT project aims to implement the tool into the planning and institutional development process of different universities in other regions as well. The most important steps and to-dos were discussed in the latest consortium meeting in Porto, Portugal, while the outcomes of the whole project will be presented in a conference in June at the University of Macerata, Italy. Our research team believe that the final version of the HEInnovate for RIS3 self-assessment tool will be of interest not only for universities, but also for actors of the public, private and civil sectors who are or willing to be involved in the development and implementation of the regional smart specialisation activities.
