Bálint Varga is a successful young entrepreneur leading the logistics and road transportation company K&V. As a Corvinus alumnus, he was considering starting an MBA right after his master’s studies. However, the right moment arrived after he spent multiple years in a management position:
After a few years, I felt like I wanted to deepen my leadership knowledge and develop my business skills.
He chose the Executive MBA program of Corvinus University of Budapest because he was impressed by the lecturers and the diversity of the content. He also had the impression that the program’s structure would suit his schedule as a managing director.
It was very important for me that the lessons take place once a month and mainly on the weekends because I need to be involved in the company’s daily operation.
Bálint started the program in September 2024, and so far, he has been able to adjust his schedule effectively.
The other participants are also flexible – we can easily manage the group projects. I appreciate the structure of the program.
While learning about theory and practice, the MBA is mainly built on knowledge-sharing with many interactive in-class activities and collaborative problem-solving exercises.
For me, the biggest additional value of the MBA stems from discussing business situations. Our group is quite diverse, with many experienced managers working in different fields and types of companies. For instance, we recently had a class about managing cultural diversity, and I was truly surprised by the differences between sectors and countries.
Bálint leads a 35-year-old Hungarian family business and is ready to bring this unique perspective into the discussions. With his brother, Viktor Varga, they represent the second generation, and the generational transition can be considered successful. The young entrepreneurs recently won K&H’s Family Business Excellence Prize in the “Successful Generational Transition” category.
We had to show that the company is sustainable and explain how we nurtured the family values during the transition and will maintain them in the long run.
This success motivated Bálint to improve his leadership skills further.
I really like that the MBA includes group coaching and mentoring too!. We participate in a leadership development process in groups of 4-5 people and work together with a mentor to explore our behaviors as leaders. The small group enables us to open up about our professional challenges in a safe environment.
This process can directly and immediately influence the participants’ daily work. For instance, following a session, Bálint started to pay more attention to the style and frequency of giving feedback to colleagues.
I noticed that we are all maximalists who strive to develop – this mindset helps us to build new valuable connections and learn from each other.
